in tears

Juliet is sitting on the couch, curled up into an impossibly tight ball. She had waited until James had left... she hadn't told him about this video. Not yet. She didn't want to tell anyone at first, she wanted to be the only one watching it. She couldn't explain this feeling, but she felt possessive over it. And she and James had been... not fighting, but certainly frosty with each other since the whole Smoke Monster's mother incident.

Now she's regretting not watching it with him in the room. She knows she was being stupid, hiding it from him. And now she's sitting alone on the couch, rewinding the DVD over and over again, trying to memorize every single aspect of the video. Her eyes are sore and red and every so often she lets out a small, dry sob.

The film goes to black, having finished yet again, and she lets her head fall to her knees.

Juliet enters the house in a cloud of anger, having just left the sedative for the Smoke Monster's mother at the security offices. She wanders into the kitchen, making herself a tea to attempt to distract her from her shaking hands and her furious thoughts. The teacup is left on the counter to grow cold, however, as Juliet begins to pace around the house, muttering to herself.

She can't even explain her anger. She doesn't know if she can articulate anything. Her anger surprises her sometimes, welling up inside her hot and fast. She can keep a cool and calm exterior, most days, and to most people. But not to James. He knows exactly how to crack her emotional dam.

It's for this reason that she prays he doesn't come home while she's angry. She's not sure what she'll say.

With Ana home getting some rest, Juliet has taken it upon herself to do another sweep of the surrounding jungle for Neil. She hates the thought of her friend laying in some hole somewhere, hurt and alone. And she's hurting for Ana.

She's been out here for hours and nothing has come up. No tracks, no sign of Neil anywhere. She's beyond frustrated at this point. And hell, she was angry. Angry at this damn Island - though, what else is new?

She stops to take a drink of water from her canteen when a sudden spurt of rage bubbles inside her, hot and angry and insistent. She suddenly hurls the canteen away from her with a grunt, water splashing out everywhere. Picking up the largest stick she can find, she slams it over and over again into the trunk of the nearest tree. It finally gives way with an almighty crack and splinters. The force of the break sends shooting pains up her hands, but it only makes her angrier. She lets out something akin to an angry scream and then stands there, panting for breath as her voice echoes through the jungle.

She sits on the ground and curls up, burying her face in her knees.

Juliet is hot. Hot enough to drag some clothes on (just a tank top and shorts, but still, nowhere near as naked as she wants to be) and trudge over to the caf to look for some ice cream. She shared her last with Rose, and she needs something cold and delicious right now or she'll go crazy
She reaches the caf and swings open the door of the freezer... and stands staring at the complete lack of anything even remotely ice creamy. While she's enjoying the cold air of the freezer, she's also irritated. Though not entirely surprised. She didn't expect the ice cream to stick around for very long in this heat - everyone will have had the same idea she did.

She huffs a sigh, closing the door, when suddenly an idea comes to her.

A few minutes later she's rapping on Ben's door, before wiping at her forehead and cursing the sun under her breath.

Juliet had to drag herself home today, out of the air conditioning of the infirmary and out into the shimmering sun. Roughly seven years on this Island and she had never felt heat quite this... stifling. It had been building for a while, but today it had hit full force. And she didn't expect it to let up when the sun went down, either.

The house was warmer than normal, and she went around shutting blinds and turning off lights and turning on every fan they had. She was currently sprawled on the couch in as little clothing as she could manage during daylight hours - a wee little tank top and tiny shorts - and there was a sweating glass of sweet tea on the ground beside her, ice long since melted.

Goddamn Island.

There's nothing that distracts Juliet from a bad mood quite like physical labor. She'd always been one to work with her hands, and when she had lived in Dharma, working in the motor pool was amazing stress relief.

So she'd grabbed various tools and fresh lumber and was now repairing the wood of the front porch of her old house. She was tired of living somewhere she didn't feel entirely comfortable. She wanted her old house back.

As she hammers away, she is entirely in her own world, focused solely on her project - not even noticing the fact that the wooden awning above the porch was wobbling dangerously, having been knocked loose by the vibrations from the hammering, and was ready to give way and fall on her at any moment.

Juliet is sitting on the dock, cross-legged, watching the sun set. She's spent the last few days being more uneasy and upset than she had in a while. She knew exactly why, of course. She knew how badly she had upset Ben. And she felt awful about it.

And then there was what the Smoke Monster had said to her. Maybe he was right about everything. Maybe she hated that Ben didn't agree with her. Maybe she was full of herself. And maybe she
was an ingrate.

She really did have a pretty wonderful life here, by most standards. Surrounded by friends, loved by a wonderful man... what right did she have to complain?

And yet... Rachel. Julian. The children she'd always wanted but couldn't have here. Her family and friends at home. What was she supposed to do about those missing people, that ache in her chest that their absence caused?

What was she supposed to do about a man who she had never thought she'd be best friends with, someone she used to hate, who was now the only thing giving her pause in her plan to leave the Island?

Juliet hugs her legs to herself, resting her chin on her knee.

Juliet is swinging in the hammock rhythmically. She's clearly lost in thought as she absently eats an apple and stares up at the blue sky above her. Every so often she lets out a deep sigh.

Juliet is working quietly to herself in her office. She's trying to figure out when she should schedule yearly physicals again, but her calender has mysteriously gone missing. She harrumphs to herself and calls out:

Alex? Could you bring me the calender? The one sitting on Claire's desk?

Juliet walks through the jungle, towel in hand. She's following the river upstream. There's nothing like swimming in flowing water to wash away her stress.

She comes to a wide, deep part of the river, and takes of her clothes that are covering her bathing suit. Leaving them by the side of the river on some dry rocks along with her towel, she wades into the cool, flowing water and leans back into it, letting her hair fan out around her. She sighs happily as she stares up at the canopy of green and blue above.
